Plasma brain injury markers are associated with volume status but not muscle health in heart failure patients

چکیده

Background: Neurofilament light chain protein (NfL) and tau are plasma biomarkers of neuronal injury which can be elevated in patients with neurodegenerative diseases. N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) is an established marker volume status heart failure (HF) cBIN1 score (CS) emerging biomarker cardiac muscle health. It not known if, HF patients, there a correlation between markers brain markers. Methods: We studied ambulatory either preserved reduced ejection fraction (N = 50 25 HFrEF HFpEF) age sex matched healthy controls 50). Plasma NT-proBNP CS were determined using commercial kits. A bead-based ELISA assay was used to quantify femtomolar concentrations NfL total tau. Results: levels significantly higher than those from controls. In both HFpEF, we found independent direct correlations the NT-proBNP, but cardiomyocyte origin health CS, ( r 0.461, p 0.0007) 0.333, 0.0183). Conclusion: or without fraction, correlate rather health, indicating overload-associated injury.

Plasma Ghrelin Levels Are Associated with Anorexia but Not Cachexia in Patients with NSCLC

Background and Aims: The ghrelin receptor is one of the new therapeutic targets in the cancer anorexia-cachexia syndrome. Previous studies revealed that plasma ghrelin levels were high in patients with anorexia nervosa and low in obese subjects. We studied to what extent ghrelin levels are related with anorexia and cachexia in patients with cancer. Materials and Methods: Fasted ghrelin levels w...

Dietary micronutrient intakes are associated with markers of inflammation but not with markers of subclinical atherosclerosis.

Few studies have examined associations of dietary micronutrients with markers of inflammation and subclinical atherosclerosis. The present study investigated associations of heme iron, nonheme iron, zinc (Zn), magnesium (Mg), β-carotene, vitamin C, and vitamin E with C-reactive protein (CRP), IL-6, total homocysteine (tHcy), fibrinogen, coronary artery calcium, and common and internal carotid a...
